The CA Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) wants your input on housing needs in our communities. Please complete the survey (also available in Spanish) and share with individuals you serve, as they are looking for input from a broad array of sources. See the email below for more information!
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and give input regarding your community’s needs. You can take the survey more than once if you have more than one role in your community (for example, you work for an organization that provides both health services and housing services). The survey will only be available until October 1, 2019, so please share your input now!

Strong Words From Mayor Steinberg
Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg is calling for an enforceable statewide “right to shelter” mandate that would require communities to have enough shelter space or other housing to accommodate their homeless populations, a strategy modeled after a decades-long program in New York City.
The “right to shelter” mandate will pool millions of dollars for housing and establish a legal requirement requiring that a homeless individual or family accept housing when available.

Out and alone: Three-day eviction notice puts disabled man into homelessness as city’s rental crisis intensifies
“Last week, Housing Now’s Patti Uplinger told SN&R the situation for disabled renters is, generally, as challenging as ever.
‘I just read the report that Sacramento came in as one of the highest cities in the nation for year-to-year rent hikes, for the third year in a row,” Uplinger said. “I can just look back to last October when I was working with Sacramento Self-Help Housing to get people into the county’s shelter system. Most of the people we took off the streets, and off the river, were seniors with disabilities.'”

The Webinar will discuss the basics of the ABLE Act and how practitioners can partner with CalABLE. A series of case studies will show how a special needs trust tied to an ABLE Account can get the best of all worlds in many cases. The presentation will be one hour followed by 30 minutes for Q&A.

SCDD RELEASES STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK ON HOUSING FOR PEOPLE WITH I/DD
California State Council for Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is seeking comments on the Strategic Framework for Housing for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. These comments are due by January 31, 2019.
Housing is so important for human health and safety. There is a tremendous need for more housing opportunities that are affordable and accessible. Please take some time and give feedback on this framework!
